Your paths to recovery
Brief overview
We provide helpful information on where to apply for your treatment, which authority is responsible for billing, and what steps are necessary for approval. However, we would like to point out that we do not claim to be exhaustive or legally binding.
1. First of all, it is up to your attending physician to certify the urgency of a course of treatment.
Depending on the severity of your condition, your doctor will recommend either outpatient or inpatient treatment. Both types of treatment usually last three weeks.
2. Statutory health insurance
Your health insurance provider is always your point of contact. They will provide you with all the necessary information and application forms.
3. If you are eligible for financial assistance, please contact your financial aid office.
4. Before a requested spa treatment can be approved by a social security provider ...
... it is always mandatory to have the necessity of the measure reviewed by a neutral medical institution (medical service, public health officer, etc.).
5. Who bears the costs?
You can go on a health cure at any time at your own expense. If the cure has become medically necessary, it is still possible to have the costs reimbursed in full or in part by one of the service providers within the structured system of our social insurance and in accordance with civil service law:
(a) for those who have health insurance and, as a rule, for pensioners, housewives, and children who have health insurance themselves or as family members. The statutory health insurance fund is responsible here.
(b) for those who have pension insurance or have had it for a certain period of time. The statutory pension insurance fund is responsible here.
(c) for civil servants (unless they are entitled under a or b). The benefits office is responsible for them.
6. Outpatient preventive care or rehabilitation treatment
With this type of treatment, formerly known as “open spa treatment” and now referred to as “outpatient preventive care in recognized health resorts” in accordance with SGB V § 23 (2), you are largely free to choose the health resort and accommodation in consultation with your doctor. The health insurance fund covers the full costs of medical treatment and 85 percent of the costs of spa treatments. The health insurance fund may grant a lump-sum subsidy for the remaining costs. If you are a member of a statutory health insurance fund, please clarify any details with us before you travel, as there are special conditions that must be taken into account.
7. The spa doctor
For outpatient treatment, you must first consult the spa doctor on site. Thanks to their many years of relevant experience with the effectiveness of the location-specific spa treatments, they are able to draw up an appropriate treatment plan with all the relevant applications in order to achieve the best possible results. As our doctor cannot accept spa doctor's certificates from house guests, we ask you to clarify any treatment with us before you travel, as there are special considerations to be taken into account. Please note that arrival for sanatorium treatments is only possible on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays.
8. Inpatient preventive care or rehabilitation treatment
If outpatient preventive care or rehabilitation services are not sufficient, the health insurance fund or other responsible social security provider may approve inpatient treatment with accommodation and meals in a facility with which a care contract exists (Section 111 of the German Social Code, Book V). In this case, the entire costs are generally covered, but a co-payment is required for each day of treatment. There are exceptions provided for by law and individually justified on medical grounds, about which your health insurance fund will inform you.
As there is no care contract with our facility, billing is carried out exclusively between the guest or patient and our facility.
9. Inpatient follow-up treatment
Inpatient follow-up treatments that are covered in full or in part by statutory health insurance cannot be carried out at our facility.
Please note that the above information has been compiled to the best of our knowledge and belief. However, we cannot assume any legal liability for its accuracy.
We wish you a pleasant stay at our health resort in Oberstdorf.
